Long lead times good or bad?
“Ouch – good for you but bad for us!” This is a response from a potential client when I said we are booked up until September 2019 (4 months lead time). It got me thinking about what a good lead time actually is. What the expectation is and what it means for our potential customers. What does a long lead time show you as a customer? Simply it says we are fully booked and this is a good thing! If we are a company that take bookings four months in advance this shows, we are not a fly by night company. The type of ‘landscaping company’ that showed up on your doorstep on the off chance you needed your driveway doing. Completed the job the next day/week and you never hear from them again. Guarantees are something unheard of…sound familiar? … Continue reading

Large Landscaping Project – Setting Out & Managing
How did we, a small landscaping contractor from Southampton secure a large landscaping project (our largest contract to date) out of area and manage it you ask? Let’s start at the beginning… Bath Rugby Club wanted a large landscaping project completed at their training ground, Farleigh House. They approached Marshalls, as the leading product manufacturer in the UK who put forward three of their best award winning domestic contractors who were a part of their register. The brief was to create a large car parking area, lay paths and create a paved awards atrium with steps (lots of them) for the rugby clubs training facilities situated at Farleigh House. The products they chose to complete the project was Marshalls Antique Silver Sawn Sandstone plus step kits, Scoutmoor Setts for the paved areas and Tegula Drivesett Traditional kerbs. It was imperative that the … Continue reading

Grass: Natural or its artificial brother?
The majority of us just love our lawns! Despite the fact they look very untidy, overgrown and a muddy, squelchy grass mess for a rather large proportion of the year. Come the summer months, we bring out the strimmers, mowers, rakes, weeding tools and the like, in a quest for a perfect summer lawn. Imagine a world without these tools; a world where you don’t have to frantically charge up and down the garden with the lawn mower, because you have friends coming over for a barbecue in one hour. This is why it’s great to fake it! Introducing artificial grass! At Aura Landscapes, we are big advocates and installers of Nam Grass; the artificial grass brand. Not only does this artificial grass look good, but it is without a doubt a very practical alternative where you no longer have … Continue reading

Landscaping: Know exactly where your costs go
It’s so important to maximise the space potential in your home. And the grounds of your house should not be overlooked. Both front and back gardens can offer some fantastic outdoor living space, and additional parking if this is required. However, this does come at a cost and this often prevents homeowners from considering this as an option. Our experience at Aura Landscapes, is that if we are totally transparent about cost, and explain to our customers exactly where their money is being spent, this helps them in their decision-making process. They can then see how worthwhile this type of renovation is, and that the price tag comes with quality workmanship, and a landscaped garden design built to last. Let’s explore the landscaping costs. There are three key areas to be aware of. First of all, preparation is a huge part … Continue reading

Award-winning garden – A very happy customer!
It’s not because we are arrogant that we often tell our prospective customers (or anyone that will listen!) that we are a multi award-winning landscape company… it’s because we are incredibly proud. It demonstrates our level of expertise, quality and skill. Linda’s award-winning garden Our ability to create amazing gardens cannot be brought to life more than when our customers tell us. That’s why we wanted to share Linda Fullforth’s story with you, in her very own words. Linda was dabbling in garden design, and pulling together some drawings on how she wanted her new garden to look. When searching for the type of stone she wanted, she came across the Marshall’s website, where she was able to search for local landscaping companies; of which we were one. Linda said: “I was provided with three companies, and all came to quote … Continue reading
